Attorney general Mahbubey Alam called Thursday's judgment "epoch-making".
"It'll be remembered as one of the greatest trials in the history of mankind," he said in a post-verdict press conference.
He termed Khandaker Mushtaq Ahmed a "traitor", for enacting the notorious indemnity ordinance, which barred the trial for 21 years.
"Later, the military rulers Ziaur Rahman and (Hossain Mohammad) Ershad backed the black law," said Alam.
The convicts had been given all legal support during the hearing, he added.
