The holy night of Shab-e-Meraj was being observed Monday, as Muslims marked the ascent of prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) to heaven to meet God.

The holy night began following Esha prayers at mosques across the country.

Special prayers hosted by the Islamic Foundation were held at the Baitul Mokarram National Mosque.

People also offered special prayers at their near and dear ones' graves, seeking divine blessings for the departed souls.

According to Islamic belief, Muhammad crossed seven skies on the heavenly vehicle, Borak, on 26 Rajab, 620.

He met God, who set five daily prayers for Muslims.
