State minister for power and energy Shamsul Haque Tuku said Wednesday that increased power demands were masking the positive impact of the daylight saving programme.
Between 205 and 207 megawatts of electricity are being saved every day as a result of the programme, Tuku told reporters following talks with representatives of the textile industry on gas supply shortfalls.
"However, this is not visible because of the huge power demand we have at the moment," he said.
"Nevertheless, load shedding is now coming down to three or four times a day from five or six times recently," he said
Tuku said power supply deficiencies in the textile industry would not be resolved until gas reserves in the country were more fully exploited.
Bangladesh Standard Time (BST) was advanced by one hour at 11:00pm on June 19.
