Bdnews24.com Markets began creeping into positive territory as indices on the country's twin bourses edged up Tuesday with increased investor participation. Brokerage officials said they dealt with increased numbers of retail investors Tuesday. "The number of retail investors was pretty high compared to the last couple of days," an official of IDLC Securities told bdnews24.com. Dhaka Stock Exchange's benchmark DGEN or general index increased 5.19 points or 0.18 percent, finishing at 2854.87. The DSI or all-share price index ended on 2409.86, rising 3.60 points or 0.14 percent. The blue chip DSE-20 declined 2.62 points, or 1.08 percent, to close at 2409.51. Huge losses in banks and ICT shares along with the blue chips caused indices on the Chittagong Stock Exchange to finish downbeat. The CSCX or selective categories index closed 13.54 points or 0.23 percent higher at 5698.63. The CASPI or all-share price index finished at 8722.17, gaining 18.91 points or 0.21 percent. The bourse's blue chip CSE-30 crept up 5.28 points or 0.06 percent to close on 7686.35. Meanwhile, increased investor participation led the turnover and trading volume on the country's twin bourses to rise from the previous day. The DSE recorded turnover at Tk 3.64 billion—with 29,138,006 shares changing hands—up from Monday's Tk 3.14 billion. The port city bourse's turnover surged to Tk 571.631 million from Tk 399.494 million the previous day through trading of 6,286,897. Losers beat gainers on the DSE by 126 to 88, while 13 issues held steady. Of the traded 133 scrips on the CSE, 70 issues lost, 60 gained and three remained unchanged. Atop in turnover on the DSE, Titas Gas slipped 0.24 percent to Tk 513.25. Beximco Pharmaceuticals followed it to end on Tk 117, up by 5.69 percent. Beximco surged 8.91 percent to finish at Tk 167.30. Grameen One: Scheme 2 ended on Tk 57, gaining 2.51 percent. ICB AMCL 2nd NRB Mutual Fund closed 2.95 percent lower at Tk 238 following Monday's gains. Among the other scrips on the turnover board,AIMS 1st Mutual Fund, Keya Cosmetics and Lanka Bangla Finance advanced. ACI and Grameen Mutual Fund One lost.
