Midfielder Joe Cole says England must forget about the disappointment of not reaching Euro 2008 and concentrate on qualifying for the 2010 World Cup, reports BBC.

They play the Czech Republic at Wembley on Wednesday in a friendly, ahead of next month's World Cup qualifiers.

Cole said: "It's a setback we weren't at the Euros. It's a great stage to play on and it was an opportunity lost.

"But you can't look back and there's no reason we can't be competing for the next two or three big tournaments."

England missed out on a fabulous European Championship in Austria and Switzerland in the summer after a disastrous qualification campaign under former boss Steve McClaren.

Cole says England must try to improve under new coach Fabio Capello as they prepare for September's World Cup qualifiers.

"The Euros are gone and you have to move on to the next challenge," added the Chelsea star.

"There has been a lot of criticism and we take full responsibility as players, but we want to put it right now.

"The manager brings a pedigree second to none. When he tells you to do something you do it, he's a great leader and all the lads really respect him.

"First and foremost he wants us to win, and as we spend more time together and keep improving, we will keep on moving forward.

"You have to squeeze all the time you can out of these friendlies because time is precious for international squads."
