Senior Awami League leaders paid homage Thursday at the mausoleum of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara, Gopalganj, amid tight security, ahead of the recently reinstated National Mourning Day on Aug 15.

Law enforcement and intelligence personnel were deployed at the mausoleum complex ahead of scheduled visits by the president, chief adviser and chiefs of the armed forces to pay their respects to the national leader on Friday.

AL presidium members Syeda Sazeda Chowdhury, Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzak, Tofail Ahmed, Suranjit Sen Gupta, Matia Chowdhury, Syed Ashraful Islam, Mukul Bose, Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Abdul Mannan along with other central leaders of the party placed wreaths at Sheikh Mujib's grave around noon Thursday.

Newly elected city corporation mayors, Talukder Adbul Khaleque of Khulna and Shawkat Hossain Hiron of Barisal also paid their respects, followed by leaders of AL's front organisations.
