Defender signs deal until 2012

Gareth Bale has handed a Tottenham a major boost ahead of the new season by signing a new long-term deal.

The Welsh international has inked a one-year extension to keep him at White Hart Lane until 2012.

Bale joined Tottenham from Southampton last summer and initially signed a four-year deal at the club.

The 19-year-old's first season in North London was blighted by injury which restricted him to just 12 appearances last term.

Bale is now back to full fitness and he is set to play a key part in Juande Ramos' side this season.
