QINHUANGDAO, Aug 9 (bdnews24.com/Reuters) - World Player of the Year Marta was on target as Brazil, helped by two defensive lapses, beat North Korea 2-1 for their first win of the Olympic women's soccer on Saturday.

World champions Germany and Olympic champions United States also won their first games, beating Nigeria and Japan respectively on a day which produced only nine goals in six games.

Brazil went ahead in the 14th minute when North Korea defender Om Jon Ran over-hit a backpass, goalkeeper Jon Myong Hui tried to stop it going out of play but instead kicked it straight to Daniela who scored into an empty net.

Nine minutes later, Marta beat her hesitant marker to the ball and scored on the turn.

Ri Kum Suk scored North Korea's consolation in injury-time.

Brazil, who have four points from two games, top Group F on goals scored from Germany, who were lucky to beat Nigeria 1-0.

Kerstin Stegemann turned in substitute Anja Mittag's pass from close range against the run of play in the 64th minute.

Carli Lloyd fired the only goal for the the U.S. from outside the penalty area after two Japan defenders and one U.S. forward all misjudged the bounce of the ball in their Group G match.

Norway lead with six points after beating New Zealand 1-0 with an eighth minute goal from Melissa Wiik.

Canada and hosts China stayed level at the top of Group E after drawing 1-1.
