AP, LONDON -- The U.S. dollar was higher against other major currencies in European trading Friday. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.5035, down from $1.5328 late Thursday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.5039.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Thursday, included 110.16 Japanese yen, up from 109.45; 1.0802 Swiss francs, up from 1.0625; and 1.0678 Canadian dollars, up from 1.0517.

The British pound was quoted at $1.9203, down from $1.9436.

In New York midday trading, the dollar bought 110.20 yen and 1.0796 francs, while the pound was worth $1.9199.

Gold traded in London at $852.50 per troy ounce, down from $871.50 late Thursday.
