Honest Bangladeshi workers

Desk Report

Kuwait's deputy prime minister has reassured Dhaka that honest and hardworkiong Bangladeshis would not be the victims of deportation owing to the faults of a few compatriots.

The assurance came as foreign adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury telephoned the Kuwaiti deputy PM Sheikh Mohammed Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah Wednesday night and sought his support to resolve the issues pertaining to Bangladeshi workers in Kuwait.

Al-Sabah, also in charge of Kuwait's foreign ministry, also received Iftekhar's letter written to him Tuesday.

"Sheikh Mohammed assured me that the vast majority of honest, dedicated and hard working Bangladeshis will not suffer for the faults of a few," Iftekhar told reporters at his office.

The conversation was "extremely warm and cordial" said the foreign adviser.

Iftekhar added that he might visit Kuwait at a convenient time in August.

The deputy prime minister said the foreign adviser would be most welcome to visit Kuwait at a mutually acceptable time.
