Staff Correspondent The Election Commission plans to hold elections to 300 Upazila Parishads on October 23. "We are thinking of holding the elections on Oct 23, but it's not a formal announcement of schedule," chief election commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda told this correspodnent Monday night by phone.

"We are thinking of holding the elections on Oct 23, but it's not a formal announcement of schedule," chief election commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda told this correspodnent Monday night by phone. According to BBC Radio, the EC has set the elections for 300 Upazila Parishads out of the 508 across the country. A formal announcement of an upazila election schedule is expected to come in September, a month before the voting day. Major political parties, including Awami League and BNP, had protested the upazila elections planned ahead of national polls.
