Charges of abetting in corruption

The High Court Wednesday exempted six people from the cases that involve charges of abetting their relatives in corruption in five cases filed by the Anticorruption Commission.

They are former foreign minister M Morshed Khan's wife Nasrin Khan, daughter-in-law Shama Shajnin Khan, Dhaka city ward commissioner Abdul Quaiyum's wife Shamim Ara Begum, former AL MP Kamal Ahmed Majumder's wife Shahida Kamal, daily Jugantor owner Nurul Islam Babul's son Shamim Islam and former state minister Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu's wife Sabina Yasmin.
 
The bench of justices Md Abdur Rashid and Md Ashfaqul Islam handed down the rulings after the six people appealed to the court challenging the charges against them.
 
The ACC filed a case against Morshed Khan and his son Faysal Morshed with Gulshan Police Station on Dec 10 for amassing illegal wealth and concealing information wealth.
 
Morshed Khan's wife Nasrin Khan and Faysal's wife Shama Naznin were accused of abetting in corruption in the case.
 
The case against Abdul Quaiyum was filed on March 24 with Badda Police Station. Shamim Ara was implicated in the case for allegedly aiding her husband in corruption.
 
The ACC filed a case against Kamal Ahmed Majumder with Ramna police on Sept 24. Shahida Kamal had allegedly abetted her husband.
 
Shamim Islam was accused of abetting his father Nurul Islam Babul in amassing illegal wealth and concealing information on property.
 
The ACC accused Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu's wife Sabina of helping husband in corruption.
