Awami League religious affairs secretary Sheikh Md Abdullah surrendered to a special court Wednesday in a case filed against him by the Anticorruption Commission.

Following his surrender to the Special Judge's Court-5 at noon, a bail plea was submitted to the court. Judge Md Ashraf Hossain rejected the plea, ordering him to be sent straight to jail.

A hearing in the case was held Wednesday, with the court setting July 20 for framing charges.

The Anticorruption Commission filed the case with Ramna police on Jan 6, 2008, accusing Abdullah of acquiring assets of Tk 42.03 lakh beyond his known sources of income and of concealing wealth-related information from the ACC.

Proceedings of the case began in the special court on July 2.
