The government Tuesday reset long-haul bus fare higher at Tk 1.05 per kilometre in the wake of a fuel price hike.

The revised fare means an increase of Tk 0.18 per kilometre per passenger.

However, the fare for minibuses that use Mawa and Paturia ferries to cross the rivers will be Tk 1.11 per kilometre.

Communications adviser Ghulam Quader said the fare was hiked due to an increase in fuel prices.

"It was done in line with the reality."

"The government is seeking cooperation from all in making the new fare effective."

On Monday, the government announced a hike in fuel prices. As per the new announcement, diesel price was raised to Tk 55 from Tk 40 per litre, petrol to Tk 87 from Tk 65 and octane to Tk 90 from Tk 67.
