Flash floods have submerged lowlands in Nilphamari district off the Teesta river, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre said in a report Sunday, reports bdnews24.com

Most rivers in the Ganges and Brahmaputra basins recorded rises in water levels, according to FFWC of Bangladesh Water Development Board.

"The low-lying areas of Nilphamari district are experiencing moderate flash floods. The situation is likely to improve," the report said.

River waters recorded a rise at 44 points, a fall at 26 and held steady at two out of 73 water-level stations across the country.

The Dharla river flowing through Kurigram district recorded a rise by 4cm. The Teesta river showed a 57cm fall at Dalia point.

The Brahmaputra-Jamuna fell by 3cm at Noonkhawa and rose by 11cm at Chilmari.

The Buriganga recorded a 10cm rise in the water level.

The Surma rose by 66cm at Kanaighat, 34cm at Sylhet and 5cm at Sunamganj.
