A goods train ran over a fourth year honours student of Dhaka University in Tejgaon on Friday, severing both his legs, reports bdnews24.com.

Saiful Islam, a student of mass communication and journalism, was immediately rushed to Dhaka Orthopaedic Hospital.

Saiful is a trainee reporter of Bangla-language daily Prothom Alo. Another Prothom Alo reporter, Obaidur Rahman Masum, who witnessed the incident, told bdnews24.com that they had gone to Tejgaon on an assignment.

Masum said the incident took place around 10.30am, near Tejgaon rail station, when Saiful was crossing the line.

He could not name the train.

Contacted by bdnews24.com, Prothom Alo news editor Lazzat Enab Mahsi said Prothom Alo would bear all expenses needed for Saiful's treatment.
