Stocks open lower on interest rate concerns |

REUTERS, NEW YORK - Stocks opened lower on Tuesday after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said the central bank would strongly resist rising inflation, stoking fears that interest rates may be on their way up. The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI was down 58.54 points, or 0.48 percent, at 12,221.78. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX was down 9.41 points, or 0.69 percent, at 1,352.35. The Nasdaq Composite Index .IXIC was down 24.14 points, or 0.98 percent, at 2,435.32.
