Finance adviser AB Mirza Azizul Islam said Monday the inflation of the country would come down to 9 percent in the next fiscal year from the current double-digit rate.

In his budget speech for fiscal 2008-09, the adviser said bumper harvest coupled with the forecast of increased global food grain production by the second half of 2008 would help cut the inflation rate.

"In December 2007, the inflation reached a high of 11.6 percent on a point-to-point basis. However, it is heartening to note that there has been a downward trend of inflation in Bangladesh of late," Mirza Aziz said.
