A court here on Thursday sentenced five people to life term imprisonment in a murder case. The convicts are Hedayetul Islam, 26, Monir, 30, Supon, 23, Hossain, 27, and Dulal.

They were also fined Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer two years RI more.

According to the prosecution, a gang of terrorists stormed into the house of local businessman Abdul Hannan alias Iran at Doulatpur village in Chatkhil upazila on the night of February 2, 2002.

They in a bid to kill Iran sprayed bullets that accidentally left his mother Sufia Begum, 50, killed on the spot and his brother Jhantu, 26, and nephew Jabed, 20, injured. Iran luckily escaped unhurt.

A case was filed against 13 terrorists of the area. After examining the records and witnesses, Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 Iktiarul Islam pronounced the judgment acquitting eight others.
