A 24-member Armed Forces team on behalf of Bangladesh government left Dhaka for the earthquake-ravaged China Wednesday to rush relief to survivors, the Inter-Service Public Relations Directorate said in a statement.

The team led by brigadier general Muhammad Mujibur Rahman will hand about 9.5 tonnes of medicines and tents over to the Chinese authorities.

A devastating earthquake hit the Sichuan province of China, leaving over 80,000 dead and 30,000 injured.

Bangladesh government took the decision to send some relief to China as a token of friendship to help "overcome the worst effect of the disaster", the statement said.
