An extended meeting of Awami League began Monday, in which party leaders have said they will discuss whether to participate in the ongoing political dialogue with the government among other issues.

The meeting began shortly after 10 am at the Engineers' Institute with a pledge to keep the party united under Sheikh Hasina's leadership at any cost.

In the absence of the party president Sheikh Hasina, AL acting president Zillur Rahman presided over the inauguration.

"We have waited for a considerable period for the government to resolve the current political stalemate; but now they're compelling us to take a certain path," he said in his inaugural speech.

A chair was kept empty on the dais in honour of detained AL president Sheikh Hasina. AL presidium members sat flanking the party president's empty chair.
