Unnamed attackers stabbed two constables and seized a shotgun from the police team on patrol in Gazipur early Friday, reports bdnews24.com.

A gang of up to 30 attacked the policemen on Dhaka-Tangail Highway past Konabari in the district, police said.

The wounded constables are Nayeb Ali, 56, and Mosharraf Hossain, 50. Ali is in critical condition. They were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Constable Shwarup Ali managed to escape the attack that took place shortly before 3:00am.

Law-enforcement agencies have launched a drive to arrest the attackers and retrieve the lost weapon, Gazipur superintendent of police Abdul Baten told reporters Friday.

"Up to 25 people with suspected ties to the attack have so far been arrested," he said.

Rashed Ahmed Chowdhury, in charge of Konabari Highway Police Outpost, said the three constables were patrolling Dhaka-Tangail Highway.

The miscreants stabbed Nayeb Ali and Mosharraf Hossain indiscriminately and snatched a loaded shotgun from Nayeb Ali.

An investigation opened into the incident.
