Train accident in Ctg

Staff Reporter

Angry students torched Sholoshahar railway station after a student of Chittagong University was killed Thursday morning as a shuttle train ran over him, eye witnesses said.

The deceased was identified as Mahmudul Hasan Mamun, a third year accounting student from Patiya in Chittagong.

Two fellow students who witnessed the terrible tragedy told bdnews24.com the accident occurred shortly before 10 am. Fourth year Bangla student Al Amin Dewan said: "Mamun was trying to get aboard the train as the university shuttle steamed out of Sholoshahar station."

The train dragged Mamun along and then stopped. But he was pulled under the carriage and crushed, they said.

Following the accident, hundreds of university students left the train to block the road in front of the station. Traffic movement ceased on the road, and students were reported to have vandalised a number of vehicles.
The train driver, station master and other railway staff were forced to flee from the scene.

Police were delayed in reaching the accident spot faced as the angry students later torched the railway station.
Three hours after the accident, Mamun's body was still lying at the scene of accident.
