At least 11 people died and 40 others were injured after a bus and truck had a head-on collision in Sherpur on the Dhaka-Bogra highway early Tuesday, a police official said.

The accident occurred around 2 am while a truck carrying rice, bound for Chittagong from Dinajpur, collided with a passenger bus, bound for Gaibandha from Dhaka, Sherpur police chief Shafikul Islam told bdnews24.com.

Eight people died instantly, seven of them bus passengers, Islam said.

Three more people died on their way to Bogra Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

Other injured were admitted to Sherpur Health Complex.
