Rotary International president Wilfried J Wilkinson wrapped up his Bangladesh visit Monday.

At an afternoon press conference at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel, Wilkinson said he came here to visit Sidr-hit areas and Rotary projects.

Rotary's world chief met president Iajuddin Ahmed Sunday and chief adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed.

Wilkinson said his talks with the president had focused on economic growth and education.

In response to a question from a reporter, Wilkinson said he had not discussed anything about any government's policy.

He thanked Bangladeshi Rotarians for their outstanding role in eradicating polio from Bangladesh.

In a statement, Rotary International said Iajuddin had praised Rotary International's humanitarian and disaster relief programmes for the distressed people, active cooperation in rehabilitating the victims of natural disasters and activities in health and education sectors.

The chief adviser also appreciated Rotary activities and urged the Rotary International president to intensify its activities to rehabilitate Sidr-victims, the statement said.

Wilkinson arrived in Bangladesh on Friday and visited a number of projects being implemented with Rotary assistance.

Wilkinson, a retired chartered accountant, served Rotary International as vice president, director and trustee of the Rotary Foundation and district governor.

Rotary International is a voluntary organisation of business and professional leaders who provide humanitarian service and help to build goodwill and peace in the world.

In Bangladesh, there are close to 4,000 Rotarians belonging to over 155 Rotary clubs.
