A Dhaka court sentenced Jatiya Party chairman Anwar Hossain Manju to seven years on Sunday for taking bribes.

Justice AKM Arifur Rahman of Special Judge's Court-10 handed down the verdict that included a Tk 1 crore fine or another year in jail on failure to pay.

The court also sentenced Manju's wife Tasmima Hossain to five years' imprisonment, and a Tk 5 lakh fine or another year's imprisonment in case of failure to pay, for abetting her husband. Manju's cousin, Mahmud Hossain, also received a five year sentence for abetting his cousin.

As all the accused are fugitive, the verdict will be effective from the date of their arrest or surrender.
