Two trains collided at Ashuganj Rail Station in Brahmanbaria, killing at least eight people instantly early Wednesday, officials said.

About 30 people were injured, police said.

Upabon Express bound for Sylhet from Dhaka hit Noakhali Express which was waiting at the rail station. Noakhali Express was bound for Noakhali district.

Brahmanbaria deputy commissioner Md Abdul Hye put the initial death count at seven when the news broke.

Ashuganj police sub-inspector Md Kamruzzaman told bdnews24.com that two bogeys of Noakhali Express derailed.
