Cases against Obaidul Kader

The Supreme Court Monday turned down an Anticorruption Commission plea to halt a High Court stay on three graft cases against former state minister Obaidul Kader, reports bdnews24.com.

Appellate Division chamber judge Md Abdul Matin however forwarded the ACC application to the full bench for a hearing on May 18.

The HC on April 28 stayed the graft cases against the Awami League joint general secretary, filed by the ACC.

On Sept 30 last year, ACC assistant director Ashraful Islam filed three cases with Paltan Police Station against Kader.

The allegation is that Kader took Tk 38 lakh, Tk 47 lakh and Tk 57 lakh separately in bribe in the 1996-2001 period when he was the state minister for youth and sports and National Sports Council president through the council's director Habibur Rahman.

Kader was arrested on March 9 last year.

Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan moved the ACC's application and advocate M Enayetur Rahim opposed it.
