Polytechnic students vacate dormitories amid clashes PDF Print E-mail

Police baton-charge a student of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute during a clash Saturday.
Students vacated the dormitories of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute Saturday on an official order amid violent clashes over the death of a student, reports bdnews24.com.

The angry students battled with the police for a second day as they took to the streets to protest the death of Ashiqur Rahman, a second-year student of the institute.

At least 50 people, including students, were injured in the clashes. The students blocked traffic on Tongi Diversion Road.

The authorities of the institute held a midday emergency meeting and asked the students to vacate dormitories by 1:00pm.

Shamsul Alam, principal of the institute, told reporters: "We have asked the students to leave the dormitories as the situation went out of control.
