Major General Sheikh Md Monirul Islam has been appointed Director General of the National Security Intelligence (NSI), reports UNB.

General Monir, who was the DG of the Special Security Force (SSF), will join his new office (Sunday), said an official announcement Saturday.

Commissioned in 1978 in the East Bengal Regiment, Monirul Islam held important command, instructional and staff appointments like Commanding Officer of the East Bengal Regiment, General Staff Officer First Grade of an Infantry Division, Commander of an Infantry Brigade, Directing Staff and Senior Instructor of Defence Services
Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and General Officer Commanding of an Infantry Division.

He served in Iraq in the UN mission in 1988-1989.

Islam has visited a number of countries in official capacity. He holds a Masters on Defence Studies from the National University of Bangladesh, Masters in Defence and Strategic from Madras University of India and Masters in Business Administration from Trinity University of the USA. He graduated from the National Defence College.
