A female student of Dhaka University committed suicide hanging herself with the ceiling fan inside her room at Begum Rokeya Hall Tuesday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Sandhya Rani Sarker, daughter of Binoy Krishna Sarker, a fourth year (7th semester) student of the Institute of Education and Research (IER) of the university.

Witnesses said Sandhya, who hailed from Khulna, was found hanging from the ceiling fan at 2:30pm inside her room No 80 of the extension building of Rokeya hall. The door of the room was locked from inside.

Sandhya''s room-mates were not present during the incident. After breaking the door open with help of hall officials, Sandhya''s friends rushed her to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the attending doctors declared her dead.

The reason behind the suicide could not be known immediately. Her body was kept at the morgue of Dhaka Medical Hospital till the writing of the report. University authorities said they would make arrangements to send the body to Sandhya''s home in Khulna.
