Islamic Law Implementation Committee Tuesday deman-ded scrapping of the National Women Development Policy and resignation of all the advisers of the caretaker government, reports UNB.

The committee chairman Mufti Fazlul Haq Amini told a rally at north gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the afternoon that the policy providing for equal inheritance right to women was repugnant to the holy Quran.

Referring to the relevant verses of the Quran the Mufti, also chairman of Islami Oikkya Jote, was highly critical of the Advisers for adopting the policy hurting the religious sentiment of the Muslims.

They should all resign forthwith. The rally held amid heavy security when riot geared police were on guard around the place. Movement of vehicular traffic through the busy road from Dainik Bangla crossing to Paltan crossing was closed for about three hours from 3-30 pm.

The Mufti demanded release within 24 hours of those arrested at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram mosque for protesting the government policy after the Juma prayer on Friday. Some 17 devotees were arrested during the protest that led to sporadic clashes with police.

About 150 people including policemen were wounded in the clashes. Issuing stern warning to the government Mufti Amini said a tougher programme seeking scrapping of the policy would be announced from the convention of Olamaye Mashayekh (religious scholars) scheduled at the Institute of Engineers on May 4.

He urged all the Imams of the mosques across the country to make the people aware of the anti-Quran policy of the government.
