A fourth-year student of linguistics at Dhaka University was found dead Tuesday, the police said. Md Ali Jinnah, assistant sub-inspector of Shahbagh Police Station, told bdnews24.com that Chhanda Rani Sarkar, 22, was found hanging from a fan in the room No. 80 (extension) of Rokeya Hall.

He alleged that Chhanda had committed suicide by tying her scarf around her neck. Chhanda was from Rangpur village under Dumuria of Khulna district. She left a note addressed to her father, but the police would not comment on the matter.

A student of Rokeya Hall, speaking on condition of anonymity, said her body was recovered by breaking open the door of the room.

The police took the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
