Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed on Sunday emphasized the need for enhancing trade between Bangladesh and the Philippines for benefit of both the peoples, reports agency. The Philippines has shown interest to sign an air agreement with Bangladesh to ease Dhaka-Manila air link. Dr Fakhruddin said this while ambassador of the Philippines Zenaida Tacorda Rabago paid a courtesy call on him at his office here.Welcoming the ambassador, the Chief Adviser said Dhaka- Manila relationship is excellent at this moment and hoped that it would be strengthened further during her tenure. Dr Fakhruddin expressed gratitude to the Philippines government for extending support to Bangladesh in getting membership of ASEAN Regional Fourm (ARF). Ambassador Zenaida also thanked Bangladesh government for providing support to Philippines in getting observer status in the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). A Bangladeshi business team is likely to visit Manila soon, the ambassador said and added exchange of such visit from both ends will help boost economic relations. The Chief Adviser urged the businessmen of Philippines to invest more in Bangladesh for having the benefit of cheap labour and better working environment here. He expressed satisfaction as more investment is coming from the Philippines to Bangladesh gradually. Appreciating the quality of pharmaceutical products of Bangladesh and its competitive price, Zenaida said people in Philippines use Bangladeshi pharmaceuticals as these are cheaper and better in quality. The ambassador also appreciated the look east policy of Dhaka and hoped bilateral relation between the two countries would be benefited from it. Zenaida also lauded the achievement of Bangladesh in peacekeeping in the international arena and its role in counter terrorism. Dr Fakhruddin said Bangladeshi peacekeepers also contribute to the local development of the countries concerned that give benefit to people. |
