Rail links between Sylhet and Dhaka resumed Sunday after seven hours of suspension in the wake of the partial derailment of a goods train at Bhanugachh Station near Srimangal Saturday night, a railway official said.

A wagon of the train on its way to Chhatak from Shayestaganj derailed at 8.45pm Saturday, Srimangal stationmaster Md Jahangir Alam told bdnews24.com.

"Two wheels of a wagon came off the track between the home and outer signals of Bhanugachh Station," Alam said. Bangladesh Railway east zone deputy assistant engineer Ruhul Akhter Khan told bdnews24.com: "A tool van went to the spot around 12:30 am and conducted the rescue operation."

The wagon was raised around 3:00 am, but it fell again. It was raised again after a second attempt. Md Jahangir Alam, assistant stationmaster of Srimangal Railway Station, told bdnews24.com Sunday: "The derailment of the goods train disrupted rail links between Sylhet and Dhaka and Chittagong."

The Chittagong-bound Udayan was stranded near Bhanugachh Station for three hours, while the Dhaka-bound train Upaban stranded at Shomshernagar for three hours and Sylhet-bound Upaban stranded at Srimangal for one hour.
