Awami League presidium on Saturday blasted the caretaker government for its indecision and failing to control the soaring prices, saying that the country cannot be run by PhD holders and World Bank clerks, reports UNB. "Be it silent or loud, a famine-like situation is prevailing...Even middle income group is starving. The government''s indecision is responsible for this," AL general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam told reporters after the presidium meeting. He said, "The country cannot be run by a handful of PhD holders and World Bank clerks. The sooner they are driven out the better for the country. They cannot bring welfare for the country." Ashraful said the country needs elections as soon as possible. He said the presidium meeting demanded that detained party chief Sheikh Hasina should be sent to the USA for her treatment on humanitarian ground. She would be staying in the USA as long as her treatment requires and would return home to face the cases against her. About pre-dialogue consultation with Advisors, he said they are prepared to sit with the government on receipt of a formal letter which may be faxed or emailed. "We''re sincere about the discussion." Asked whether they are being forced by unseen forces to sit with the government, Ashraful denied, saying, "No unseen force is putting pressure on us,… We will be able to sit for the final dialogue taking our leader (Sheikh Hasina) with us." Acting AL president Zillur Rahman chaired the meeting at his Gulshan house. It was attended by Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Abdur Razzak, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofael Ahmed and Syed Ashraful Islam. The meeting decided to observe the Mujib Nagar Day on April 17. A delegation comprising Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzak and Suranjit Sengupta will attend the programme at Meherpur while other central leaders will attend the programmes in Dhaka. |
