Bigots clash with Ctg police

About one hundred of angry activists of Hathazari Madrasha(Big) including 8 cops were injured following a clash between the Islamists and the police members over alleged death of a protester taking part in a protest against proposed national women development policy on Friday, police and witnesses said.

According to police sources, angry activists mostly students of the madrasha launched attack on the local police station all of a sudden vandalizing fittings in the OC’s room.
They also set fire to some vehicles parking at their compound, sources added.

Traffic on the bustling Khagrachari - Rangamati road was off for two hours from 6pm to 7pm.
Local sources said, a huge procession of madrasha students cordoned off the police station and began to hurl stones. SI Mizanur Rahman, constables Abdul Hoq, Baharuddin, Mostafa, official Shipra Rani Das and Thana mosque Imam Abul Kalam were injured at the incident.

The protesters also vandalized three motor bikes, one jeep, a car and set fire to those.
When asked why they were launching attack, some protestors answered, it was a sequel to death of a protester in the capital over national women development policy.

To contain the clash, police used tear shells and rubber bullets when over one hundred protesters were injured.
Of them Hafizur Rahman, Nazimuddin, Sifatul Hoq, Abdur Rahim and Rafiqul Islam were admitted to local hospital in critical conditions.

Senior teacher of the institution Mufti Yahia accompanied by some other teachers approached police station and told police that they were ignorant of the students plan earlier.

None was arrested till writing of this report at 9 pm Friday nor any case was lodged in this regard. But additional police forces were deployed in the area.
