The writ petition filed by Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury, the detained former BNP lawmaker and parliamentary affairs adviser to ex-PM Khaleda Zia, challenging locus standi of the Anti-Corruption Commission in suing him for corruption was Wednesday rejected by the High Court as "not pressed", reports UNB.

When the petition came up for admissibility hearing, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) attorney placed relevant government gazette notifications with regard to re-constitution of the ACC. Barrister Rafique-ul Huq, the counsel for Salahuddun, conceded and backed out from moving the writ.

As such, the HC division bench comprising Justice M Imman Ali and Justice AFM Abdur Rahman passed an order rejecting the petition as not pressed.

On April 6, SQ Chowdhury filed the writ petition challenging locus standi of the Anti-Corruption Commission in suing him for corruption as he alleged the ACC was reconstituted without following the prescribed rules. On Feb 22 last year, the government, as part of its initiative to reconstitute the Anti-Corruption Commission, appointed former adviser of caretaker government and ex-army chief Lt Gen (retd) Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury as its chairman and two other commissioners-retired district judge M Habibur Rahman and retired member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) AHM Manjur Mannan.

Salahuddin is now facing trial on charges of corruption in the special court set up in the high-security parliament-bhaban complex. On June 13 last year, the Commission filed a case against him for amassing wealth illegally and concealing information about his wealth of over Tk 1.17 crore in the statement submitted to the ACC on February 25.
