The government wants to hold another meeting with Awami League, a party leader said Wednesday. Commerce adviser Hossain Zillur Rahman telephoned AL presidium member Tofail Ahmed on Wednesday requesting a 'second round meeting'.

Contacted by bdnews24.com, Tofail Ahmed confirmed that the adviser had telephoned him: "We will take a decision on the matter in the meeting of the presidium members this evening."

The meeting will be held at the house of acting AL president Zillur Rahman. Five advisers to the caretaker government had held an initial meeting with AL leaders on Monday.

The party leaders said that the meeting was informal and the subject of a second meeting had been discussed at the time. Monday's meeting was attended by law adviser Hassan Ariff, communications adviser Ghulam Quader, local government adviser Anwarul Iqbal, education and commerce adviser Hossain Zillur Rahman and foreign affairs adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury.

Representing Awami League were presidium members Tofail Ahmed and Motia Chowdhury, Sheikh Hasina's political secretary Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Hasina's special assistant Dr Hassan Mahmud.

The government approached both factions of the BNP on Tuesday for similar informal talks leading up to the proposed formal dialogues between the government and political parties.
