ACC sends draft proposal of Truth Commission to govt PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 10 April 2008

The Anti-Corruption Commission Tuesday sent back the draft of the proposed Truth and Accountability Commission with some recommendations after scrutiny, reports UNB.

"Some recommendations were sent to the Law Secretary after scrutinising the draft of the Truth Commission," ACC director general (admin) Col Hanif Iqbal told reporters in the afternoon.

The ACC recommended that the Truth Commission will have be tougher with those who would be accused under the Money Laundering Act, make it clear further so that the same person does not come under different laws and which person would be dealt with by which body.

It said the tenure of the Truth Commission is six months and it is not clear in the draft whether the tenure would be extended. So, the ACC recommended the government make it clear about the tenure of the Truth Commission.

The anti-graft watchdog asked the government authorities to make it clear what would happen to those whose applications to avail of the Truth Commission would be rejected. In the proposed Truth Commission, there are arrangements of different fines for different professional people.

The ACC suggested equal fine for all. The anti-graft watchdog received the draft proposal on the proposed Truth Commission early March and by the time the ACC has scrutinised the nitty-gritty of the proposal.
