LGRD and Labour and Employment Adviser M Anwarul Iqbal Tuesday said laws would be formulated to make cooperative societies free from political influence, reports UNB. The Adviser was speaking at the inaugural session of a national seminar titled ‘Cooperative Society Act and Modification and Upgrading of Cooperative Rules’ at the city’s Cooperative Bhaban. Iqbal said inconsistencies in the existing Cooperative Act would be removed as part of the reform programmes undertaken by the present caretaker government. He regretted that some unscrupulous people were gaining personal interests instead of working to alleviate poverty and create employment opportunities by registering cooperative societies. Around 100 representatives from government and non-government institutions are taking part in the two-day seminar organised by Cooperative Department. Presided over by Cooperative Department Registrar M Masud Elahi, the inaugural session was addressed, among others, by former caretaker government adviser Dhiraj Kumar Nath, additional registrars of the Department M Saiduzzaman and Amiya Kumar Chattarjee. |
