An Air Force training plane caught fire in midair and crashed in Tangail Tuesday, with the pilot ejecting with a parachute to land safely, according to witnesses.

A private television channel had initially reported the death of at least one person in the accident, but no casualties were confirmed.

The plane crashed in a mango plantation at Fulmalirchala near Sagar Dighi in Ghatail, as it was flying from Dhaka Kurmitola Airport to Rasulpur firing range at around 12.30pm, witnesses told bdnews24.com.

The plane crash left a 10-foot deep crater on impact, they said. The pilot made a safe landing by parachute onto the tin roof of a house of villager Chan Miah.

Police and army personnel from Dhaka arrived about an hour later to rescue him. The crash site has been cordoned off and Air Force personnel are examining the burnt-out plane.
