A gang snatched Tk 30 lakh from three employees of a British American Tobacco distribution company in Savar Tuesday, a company official said.

Hossain Brothers cashier Siraj Miah was shot in the incident and peon Arjun Karmakar was stabbed before the gang made off with the money, although accounts officer Golam Mostafa managed to escape without injury.

"Like other days Siraj Miah, Golam Mostafa and Arjun Karmakar left the office on Bazar Road to deposit money in Pubali Bank," manager of Hossain Brothers, Khandaker Liakat Hossain Babu, told bdnews24.com.

"When they arrived at the bank's entrance around 10.45 in the morning six muggers mounted on three motorbikes suddenly appeared and stabbed Arjun in the right leg," he said.

The Hossain Brothers manager added that the gang shot Siraj in the chest as they were making their getaway.

Abul Kahir Fakir, the officer-in-charge of Savar Police Station, told bdnews24.com: "With the help of Ashulia Police Station, police in Savar and members of RAB have been tracking down the gang."

Siraj Miah and his assistant have been admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital, where the cashier remains in a critical condition.

The latest case of daylight robbery has sent shock waves through the business community in the area.
