In a change heart behind bars, detained BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia wished early recovery of her once-arch political rival detained Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, reports UNB. Learning about her husband and personal physicians'' recommendation for sending Hasina abroad for better treatment, Khaleda became sympathetic about it, BNP chairperson''s counsel told reporters after meeting with her at the makeshift jail this (Monday) afternoon. Both the former Prime Ministers are facing same nemesis in the interim period having been accused in several corruption cases and detained in separate makeshift jails in close proximity in the high-security parliament-building complex. They are among scores of high-profile persons arrested amid a crackdown on former politicians against the backdrop of a political crisis following conflicts between their parties and allies over the issues of national elections that were eventually stalled and the current state of emergency was clamped down. Adv Azam Khan, who met Khaleda at about 4pm for consultation about her case, said the immediate-past Prime Minister also expressed concern over record-high prices of essentials, including rice. Khaleda is praying to Almighty Allah so the nation can overcome the crisis. She is also concerned about "inappropriate" treatment of her two detained sons, Tarique and Koko, Khan said, adding that Begum Zia demanded Tarique''s treatment in Germany and Koko''s in Singapore. The BNP chairperson alleged that the ACC case against Tarique, his wife and mother-in-law is baseless. "The cases are aimed at ruining the Zia family," she was quoted as saying. |
