The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh has drawn up a three-year-long programme for celebrating 400 years of Dhaka as the capital city, reports UNB. The celebrations from 2008 to 2009 will feature different activities like publication, review of cultural heritage, tradition and other historical heritage. A seven-member delegation of the Asiatic Society led by its president Prof Dr Sirajul Islam apprised Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed of their plan during a courtesy call on him at the CA’s office Monday afternoon. The Chief Adviser welcomed and appreciated the initiative of the society, saying, “Culture, tradition and heritage of ours should be upheld.” He assured government support for successful celebration of the 400 years of capital Dhaka. The delegation members thanked the Chief Adviser for transferring to the National Archives the documents of the cabinet division that have crossed 25 years. They also presented some copies of publications of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh to the Chief Adviser. |
