Patuakhali Correspondent The family members of acid-burnt Sharmin has received death threat from the miscreants. In a press conference held at Bangladesh Legal Services Trust (BLAST) Office at Patuakhali on Sunday, Sarupjan, mother of Sharmin, also plaintiff of her daughter burned case, demanded exemplary punishment to the culprits. The 13-year old girl Sharmin, a class nine student of Shoula Girl's Dakhil Madrasha under Patuakhali sadar upazila, was burned with acid on July 5, 2005. Sarupjan said, 'I want justice and an exemplary punishment to the culprits. Still I feel apprehensive about the case because I am getting death threat from different quarters that have sympathy for the accused," Mehedi Hasan Feroz, a local youth main suspected accused of the case gave threat to Sarupjan and her husband Deraj Howlader to withdraw the case. She said, 'I submitted a complaint with local Blast Office demanding for legal support,' Sarupjan filed a case with sadar police station the next day of the incident against seven persons including Mehedi Hasan Feroz, the prime accused who were bailed out through loop hole of law of law. However, Police submitted charge sheet to the court on January 5 in 2006 after five months of the incident. The story reveals that at about 8 pm on July 25 in 2005, Feroz came to Sharmin`s house with his three others accomplices when Sharmin was studying in her reading room. They entered into her room forcibly and threw acid on her body. As a result lower portion of her body was burned. Her parents admitted her first into Patuakhali General Hospital and later at Dhaka Medical College Hospital burn unit with the help of a local NGO. Sharmin got treatment there for three months and Then Mohila Ainjibi Samitee's leader took her under their shelter in Dhaka. She came back to her house just last week. |
