Staff Correspondent Students of the Northern University in Jigatola took to the streets Sunday and briefly blockaded Satmasjid Road to press home their demands for better facilities. The students of the private university protested that classes and exams were not taking place according to schedule. The students demanded that in the event they fail a course, the fees for retaking the exam be reduced to Tk 500 from Tk 3,600. They also demanded larger classrooms and improved laboratory facilities. Dhanmondi police officer-in-charge Zulfikar Rahman told bdnews24.com: "The students blocked Satmasjid Road from 11.30 in the morning to 11.45am. No untoward incident occurred during the period." The university's assistant-registrar Saifullah Koushik told bdnews24.com that university authorities are trying to solve the problem through discussion with the students. |
