More than 15,000 police personnel were subjected to punishment for dishonesty and negligence last year as part of reforms in police administration, reports UNB. Informing this at a briefing IGP Noor Mohammad told newsmen the disciplinary action was taken to make the police people-friendly by ensuring accountability, responsibility and transparency. "A total of 15,405 police officials including SPs and additional SPs have been punished for negative and bad performances since the state of emergency was declared in the country in January 2007," he said. The police chief opened a website WWW.pio.gov.bd.com named Police Internal Oversite" at its headquarters. "Everyone within and outside the country can send complaints against dishonest police officials, any individual or organizations on the website," said the IGP. "We will be benefited as people can send their suggestions as well on the website." The unit headed by DIG Benzir Ahmed began its journey in May last year with the objective of cleansing the police force from corrupt and inefficient elements who have tarnished its image. |
