The under-privileged community is an integral part of our society and we must give them an opportunity to enjoy all basic rights like other privileged sections in the country, they said.

They said this while taking part in a discussion arranged by Action on Disability and Development (ADD) at its training center in Rajshahi in observance of the National Disabled Day.

The theme of the day is ‘Social Awareness About Autism’. The speakers said the disadvantaged people should be extended cooperation instead of mercy, so they could bring welfare for the country and the nation as well.

Referring to poverty alleviation through involving the disabled in various income-generating activities, the speakers said these people must be brought under the ongoing micro-credit programmes to enable them live a decent life like others.

They said the disabled children must be given equal opportunity in institutional education like the privileged ones, so they could grow as worthy citizens and contribute their best for the country’s further development.

They underscored the need for government level effective and need-based steps for welfare of the disabled and said all concerned in different spheres of life should work together for the greater interest of these people.

In this regard, they urged the rich people as well as the philanthropists to come forward with their helping hands to help the disadvantaged people in society.

Earlier, members of different disabled and voluntary organizations along with development workers and professionals brought out a rally from the Monibazar crossing marking the day.
