The government has planned to set up over 4,500 'eco-latrines' across the country, LGRD adviser Anwarul Iqbal said Wednesday.

One latrine will be set up in each union parishad, he said.

The adviser made the announcement at a meeting of the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development, according to a government statement.

Anwarul Iqbal, who heads BARD's board of directors in his role as LGRD adviser, said since its inception the academy had contributed through research and training to changing the socio-economic conditions of the country.

He said BARD's activities would be further strengthened in future.

The academy has trained 6,477 people through 160 courses since July last year in various social sectors
